-
Event Date
Oct 29, 2026
The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (KCCLA) presents a special author talk celebrating the release of Korean American author Rosa Kwon Easton’s new historical novel, Red Seal.
Set during World War II and its aftermath, Red Seal follows a Korean mother and son as they navigate war and displacement while searching for a sense of
family, identity, and belonging. Beginning in Japan in 1943 and continuing through Japanese-occupied Manchuria and Korea,
the novel traces a decades-long journey of survival, sacrifice, and family. Inspired by the true stories of Easton’s grandmother and father,
Red Seal is the sequel to her bestselling debut novel, White Mulberry.
Rosa Kwon Easton will be joined in conversation by Lisa Lee, author of American Han, for a discussion on the novel’s historical background,
creative process, and themes of war, displacement, family, and identity.
Rosa Kwon Easton is a Korean American author and lawyer, and the author of the bestselling historical novel White Mulberry, which has been translated into multiple languages.
Lisa Lee is the author of American Han and a recipient of the Pushcart Prize. She holds a PhD in Creative Writing and Literature from the University of Southern California.
This event offers a special opportunity to hear Rosa Kwon Easton speak firsthand about the family stories and historical background behind Red Seal,
and to join a thoughtful conversation with Lisa Lee about war, displacement, identity, and family.
It will also be especially meaningful for readers interested in historical fiction, family history, migration, and questions of identity and belonging.
